Student wellness and mental health are the main priorities of the Office of Counseling & Psychological Services and the Shaw Wellness Institute at Colgate University. Counseling & Psychological Services, made up of the Counseling Center and Haven, offers mental health treatment, consultation, crisis response, and education to the campus community. Using a social justice framework the counseling staff strives to support the needs of all Colgate students through a short-term treatment model, and with an emphasis on supporting underrepresented and marginalized student populations. The Shaw Wellness Institute inspires campus-wide wellness for all members of the Colgate community. Through engaging programming, educational campaigns, peer health leadership, and various professional services, the Wellness Institute promotes holistic and multidimensional wellness for students, faculty, and staff. These offices share a strong history of collaboration, actively working to support the success of each Colgate student.

Supporting the academic mission of Colgate, the Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Education is a student development educator and a critical member of the Dean of the College Division who actively collaborates with colleagues across the University to create prevention programs related to alcohol and other drugs. This coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Education is primarily responsible for the effective delivery of prevention efforts and confidential alcohol and other drug counseling services for students via individual and group therapy.

The Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Education coordinates Colgate's alcohol and other drugs prevention and education program that encourages students to think critically about health decision-making and taking meaningful action to increase positive, health-related behaviors regarding substance use. The Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Education is also a member of the Dean of Students' indirect report group and will work closely with the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee, and collaborate closely with other professionals in the Dean of the College Division, including the center for student involvement, fraternity and sorority advising, residential life, the counseling center, and student conduct.

Areas of focus include responsibility for:
- effective provision of counseling and recovery services via individual and group therapy;
- appropriate and effective crisis response, including timely and effective on-call support of after-hours mental health needs;
- evaluation of clinical services, effectiveness, and outcomes; quality of treatment measured by overall improvement in symptoms and client self-report;
- referral to, and coordination of care with, other mental health providers as necessary;
- ensuring confidentiality and maintenance of records in compliance with professional standards, providing all services following ethical standards and in compliance with state law;
- providing expert consultation and information to Deans and other administrative staff regarding student alcohol and other drugs and implications, including campus trends and outcomes of interventions; lead new efforts to design, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that support students' responsible decision-making regarding alcohol and other drugs;
- effective collaboration with staff/faculty, students, and community partners in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating, high quality, standards-based alcohol and other drugs prevention programs and services;
- design, implement, and coordinate the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) program in collaboration with the student conduct case administrators, as one means of developing indicated prevention programming;
- coordinate the production and distribution of AOD educational materials;
- in partnership with the Shaw Wellness Institute, implement the annual launch of the prematriculation course and ongoing education related to alcohol education (AlcoholEdu) and ensure student compliance with courses;
- help lead the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee, including chairing sub-committees and helping to advance the strategic objectives in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and drug and alcohol peer advisers;
- contribute to the advancement of the mission of the University and the strategic objectives and priorities of the Dean of the College Division.

As part of this role, the incumbent is responsible for the following:
- management of technology resources within department, in collaboration with the Director of Counseling;
- implementation of the biennial review of AOD programs for the Department of Education;
- as required, accountable for supervision of student interns and student-groups;
- as required, manage and oversee center programs (e.g. TIPS, BASICS)
- as required, may be responsible for providing effective advice, counsel, and leadership on University committees;
- effective contribution to University policy related to assigned areas.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
-Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related field
-License-eligible to practice AOD counseling in New York state within 1 year from date of hire
-Familiarity with contemporary college student issues
-Demonstrated commitment to creating inclusive environments
-Experience with multidisciplinary collaboration and building close working relationships across departments
-Strong organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization capabilities
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
-Experience working in a selective, residential, liberal arts college
-Experience in mental health crisis assessment and response
-Certified Health Education Specialist (C.H.E.S.) credentials
-Experience and training in BASICS program; ability to train other professional staff to use BASICS
-Familiarity with ACHA's Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education
-Experience with assessment and learning outcomes development
- Experience supervising students and/or advising student groups
