Partnerships

The Partnerships department is responsible for maintaining a broad and diverse base of public support for Pew's programmatic work, bringing in external financial resources to complement investments by the Pew family trusts, and working with program leadership to establish large-scale collaborations that allow philanthropic partners to invest alongside the organization. The department works closely with staff across Pew, including at our subsidiary, the Pew Research Center, to carry out its responsibilities.

Position Overview

The Associate I is responsible for supporting the team that identifies prospects; conducts prospect research; and drafts, implements, and manages policies and procedures related to research.

We are seeking a collaborative, organized, and data-oriented professional with at least one year of experience in a nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate will be familiar with utilizing a wide range of research resources and demonstrate proficiency at translating data and information into written documents.

The associate position is based in Pew's Washington, DC office and reports to the manager, prospect research.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and analyze new prospects and current donors for Pew's diverse portfolio of work by reviewing and analyzing news media, financial documents, internal files and databases, online donor information systems, and other internal and external resources.
  • Draft, revise, and edit philanthropic research documents, including background reports, prospect briefings, and biographies. Ensure that briefing materials are appropriate for senior leadership and aligned with institutional strategy and key messages.
  • Assist with cultivation and stewardship events by developing guest profiles.
  • Analyze, segment, and create reports.
  • Participate fully in Pew's Salesforce constituent relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Adhere to recognized fundraising and research ethics policies and standards.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, required.
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in a nonprofit organization and with donor research. Familiarity with the fundraising cycle and where prospect research fits within that cycle.
  • Strong written skills (including editing and proofreading) are essential to this position, including the ability to understand and succinctly translate data for fundraisers, senior management, and the board of trustees.
  • High level of attention to detail, particularly with names, financial data, and biographical details.
  • Demonstrated strong research and analytical skills. Ability to investigate an issue, ask thoughtful questions, and recommend possible solutions. Ability to build a logical approach to address problems by drawing on own knowledge and experience or by seeking other references or resources.
  • Strong collaborative orientation. Ability to develop working relationships and communicate with colleagues.
  • Self-disciplined, action-oriented style. Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Strong work ethic.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing confidential information and adhering to professional ethics.
  • Ability to understand organizational structure and work through administrative systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) and research databases such as Nexis for Development Professionals, WealthEngine, and RelSci. Ability to learn new prospect and donor technology used at Pew, including Salesforce, if not already familiar. Experience using Salesforce or other CRM software is a plus.
